I LOVE watching my clients start and run successful businesses. I love watching them learn, stretch and grow. I love when they accomplish something that seemed so hard and so far away. I’ve been in the business world for many years, and I feel like everywhere I look these days, I see some new successful person. It is a great time to be in business.
Here’s why:
1. Multiple entry points: It used to be in order to start a business you needed to follow the same path as anyone else. You got a business loan, secured a location and got started. Now you can start in your basement, online, with a store front, or in network marketing. There are so many ways to start, it is a wide open door. For the cost of registering your business name with the state and getting an EIN number, you are in business!
2. Inexpensive marketing: We may be moving out of the free marketing era, but there are still many low cost options for getting leads. Social media is still relatively low cost and allows you to connect with people from across the globe. Business has always been influenced by “Who you know.” That is still true, but now you know thousands more people that you can collaborate with.
3. You can learn almost any skill for cheap: Everyone knows how much I love good how to videos on YouTube. It’s amazing what you can learn. I’m not suggesting you run your business off of YouTube knowledge alone. But often times I will learn the basic of a principle and then I will know what I need to do next to get a part of my business functioning well. I’m a HUGE fan of Udemy.com as well. They have great technical skills training. And the courses are very reasonable.
4. Flexible Labor options: As you grow, sometimes you just need a little help. You may not be ready to hire a full time person. That doesn’t mean you can’t get help. With sites like fiverr.com, elance.com and odesk.com you can hire freelancers from around the globe to help you on projects like graphic design, social media, and even project management.
5. Because it’s now: There’s no time like the present to create success and the life that you want. This IS a great time to be in business. But there is really NO BAD time to be in business. There is, however, climate change. The weather at my home in GA is beautiful this weekend! It’s 60-70 degrees, sunny and heavenly. That is kind of like the current business climate. It’s great! Just like we can’t predict the weather, we can’t predict the business climate of the future. But we can adjust as the climate changes. Maybe you are in an industry where it isn’t looking like such a good climate. That simply means you will need to be innovative in how you approach your business growth.
