FAMILY COMMUNICATION
Communication is HUGE in families!  It would be great if our kids magically knew how to communicate their needs in a respectful way.  But truthfully many adults are still mastering that skill.  My job as a parent is to teach my children how to communicate and keep that flow open.  This week I shared our family communication policy on a webinar and I have had MULTIPLE requests for it.  So here you go!
When we created this, we started with the goal of what we were trying to accomplish and asked the kids to give feedback on what they saw happening that wasn’t working.  The communication policy was born.  Everyone helped to create it, so they are also more keen to defend it.  You are welcome to borrow mine, but I suggest that you create your policy with the help of your family!

Walker Family Communication

We love each other and desire positive communication in our home.  We give complements and encouragement.  We talk respectfully and use a kind tone of voice.  We make jokes and have fun, but not at the expense of others.

The following are not in harmony with our communication standard.

  • Talking back to parents
  • Bossing around brothers
  • Yelling and arguing
  • Bullying
  • Teasing when you have been asked to stop
  • Using an angry tone

When you are not following our communication policy you will receive a warning.  I will ask you, “Is this how we communicate?”  If you continue to communicate poorly you will receive punishments:

Level 1: You will do an extra job to serve the family.

Level 2: You will be grounded from media for the day

Level 3: You will be grounded from media for the week

Level 4: You will work all day on Saturday
