How to Make Your Linkedin Profile Look GoodToday I’m covering how to make your LinkedIn profile look good in 2019. LinkedIn is a powerful platform for your business. And I get a lot of questions about this platform. So for the next 3 weeks, I’m covering Linkedin. So let’s get started.

How to make your LinkedIn Profile look good.

First thing to understand is that your profile needs to look good! Your LinkedIn profile functions like a business profile/resume/about us page/reviews. It asks for A LOT more information than Twitter, Instagram, Facebook or Youtube. All of that information is stored, and looked at by potential leads. People decide if they want to connect with you or engage in conversation by checking out your profile.

Here are 5 steps that will show you how to make your LinkedIn Profile look good.

  1. Update your Profile Pic.  Yes, it sounds so easy, but you’d be surprised how often I come across profile pics of people that I know where the picture is so old I hardly recognize them.  Their hair and clothing is really out of fashion now, and the picture wasn’t all that great all those years ago anyway.
  2. How to Make Your Linkedin Profile Look GoodCustomize Your LinkedIn URL.  When I come across LinkedIn Profiles that don’t have a customized URL, it tells me that they don’t really use LinkedIn, and it’s probably not the best place to connect with them. Here’s a link that will show you how to do that. https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/87/customizing-your-public-profile-url?lang=en
  3. Format your Banner.  Yea, you know, that big pic that resides behind your Profile pic?  Just because it was formatted correctly on another site doesn’t mean it is formatted correctly for the banner space on LinkedIn.  Years ago when I first created my LinkedIn Profile I made this mistake, and I received a ton of LinkedIn Messages from connections pointing out the problem which was helpful/annoying/embarrassing all at the same time.
  4. Follow the Right People.  What’s the point of leveraging your LinkedIn Platform if you aren’t connected with your ideal client/partners/colleagues?  Once you get to 500 connections (everyone can do that easily), the built-in LinkedIn social proof is there, so don’t worry about anything else except taking the time to be strategically partnered with the right people.
  5. Filter your skills.  For your listed skills, it’s really important to have the ones at the top that you want to be known as an expert in.  There are people on LinkedIn that will endorse you for a skill or skills that aren’t being super strategic about it, so they will almost always just choose from the top of the ones listed.  Use that to your advantage!
