Thank you to everyone for the well wishes on our move. We felt so much love and support as we trekked across the country with our kiddos. It was quite the adventure. We’ve been in our house for a week and we are loving it! We are still waiting for our moving van to get here and camping out in the meantime. Our kids are learning to play again and with each other. There is no TV and very little internet access so they have no choice! I’ve been hard at work painting the house, buying curtains and working to make this beautiful house feel like our home. When we moved, my husband was able to retire from his job with the Post Office and come to work with me in building this business. He is running our marketing and operations and doing a fantastic job. And the best part is, I get to see him every day and night! No more opposite schedules while he works nights and I work days. Right now he is outside on an adventure with all of our boys doing something that will probably involve dirty hands and sweaty faces when they all get back. I am sitting in my office (on a camp chair) that has windows on 3 sides overlooking our forest. I have a door leading to my wrap around porch so any time I need some fresh air I can just step out. I couldn’t imagine a better place to work and create! I wake up every day in awe and gratitude and end every day in awe and gratitude.
I am writing this for two reasons, one is to thank you for being a part of the journey. I still remember 5 years ago when the inspiration came for me to leave my direct sales business to become a speaker being TERRIFIED! I distinctly remember worrying if anyone anywhere would even want to hear what I had to say. So thank you for listening, than you for engaging and thank you for supporting Amy Walker Consulting! We love our clients!
The second is that I want to share with you a section from my vision statement written less than a year ago. Let me give you a little background information on this. When I wrote it, we had just finished our first year in business. We’d done well, but we also had high start up expenses so we had no money in savings. My husband was working at the Post office, loved his job and seemed very content on staying in Utah. My kids were settled in their school and loving it. Any hint of talk of thinking about moving caused massive uproar. To sum it up, the move we just made seemed very impossible. But we had a dream. And writing out my dream in a story form is something that I have been doing for over 10 years.
“House- 2014 is the year we purchase our dream home. Saving money is simple and natural for us. We love living within our means and forgoing less important things to watch our bank account grow. We are saving $2000-4000 a month. In the summer we are purchasing the home and preparing to move. Finding the home and the purchasing process is smooth and easy. Everything runs peacefully and we have a fantastic real estate agent to help us through the process. The children are excited for the new adventure. They find strength in each other and in our family as we start the next phase of our lives. They make new friends easily and we are grateful to have good friends for them in our ward, and as neighbors. I love being an active member of our small community. The boy’s school is amazing. They are each learning and growing in a way that fits their needs and personalities. The teachers are high caliber people who love the children they serve. I am grateful to be surrounded by so many faith based people. I love that my children’s beliefs are respected and that they have so many opportunities to show their love of the Lord.
As I end the year 2014, I am sitting in my family room by the fireplace watching the lights on my Christmas tree. Stephen is next to me and we are both filled with gratitude for the blessings that came to us this year. The children are happy and have adjusted perfectly to our new area. We feel safe and on track in our home. Our business has been blessed and Stephen is loving his part in it. We enjoy quality time together working and playing in our land. This truly is a great place for the boys to grow and learn. Everywhere we look, we see the hand of The Lord.”
Not everything in there has happened yet. But I would say 75% of it has. And some of the details are VERY similar. My home does not have an office on the right as I walk in. I actually chose the sun room in the back of the house instead. It’s quieter and with 5 boys that is important! My front door is black not red. I chose a bed frame that doesn’t have 4 posters, but I absolutely love it! We will start planting fruit trees this fall and probably put in the pool next summer. The Tennis court may be a while!
Here is why I am sharing this today. Quite often when I see others succeed, I don’t see the start only the end. I tend to position them in a place in my mind where they are always successful and I discount the fact that their success started somewhere. When it comes to writing your story, here’s my tips for how to make it a reality.
- It’s all in the details. My story had so much detail that as I read it, listened to it, visualized it and dreamed about it, it felt real. My brain started to believe it over time.
- Frequency matters. Anyone can spend a weekend dreaming about their future, but are you living it in your mind every day?
- Intensity is crucial. I have been dreaming about this home for 11 years. Why did it happen this time versus the other times? I got really intense about it. I stopped dreaming and started taking action. I only paid myself what I needed to get by. The rest went into my savings fund. I told my kids that we were moving. I started telling other people that we were moving. I called a loan officer and found out exactly what we needed to do to qualify for a home. I started searching MLS listings and researching education in different areas of the country to figure out where I wanted to live. I got VERY intense!
- Faith brings it together. I had MANY moments of doubt. I had many moments where the obstacles seemed stacked against me and in those moments, I relied on faith that this was a good desire and that my Higher Power wanted me to have it. I relied on the belief that doors would open and that I would have the help that I needed when I needed it.
